Beth Dykes Drama Award

We were overwhelmed to receive this letter from Beth's old school and hope the award inspires other young people in the subject that Beth loved

Dear Mr and Mrs Walker,

As I write this letter it is still hard to believe that the last time we spoke was at beautiful Beth's lovely service of remembrance. It was an honour to have been able to attend and celebrate the life of such a special young woman. This is also the reason for my writing to you now.

As a department we would like to create a lasting tribute to Beth that is a testament of Beth's contribution to our department and her talent in the subject. Every year we have a rewards event that marks the achievements and efforts of our pupils ( something for which Beth had been nominated whilst with us).

This year I would like to introduce a very special new award and I am writing to ask your permission to name it in Beth's honour the "Beth Dykes Drama Award". This will be awarded to a sixth form student who has shown sustained commitment to all activities in drama as Beth did. She was always so committed to her studies and extra -curricular projects, often roping you in too! She always went that extra mile going over and above what was expected.

We will always remember her for these attributes, as well as her love for the subject and the laughter that she brought to every situation.

The drama staff and I have discussed at length Beth's contribution to drama and we felt that more than at any other time Beth came into her own during her studies with us in sixth form and so we would like this award to be given annually to an A level student who will receive a shield/ cup and have their name put on a plaque for ongoing prosperity.

I hope that this is something that you feel is fitting and will be comfortable with us remembering Beth in this way.
