Beth's family

Beths family were looking forward to seeing Beth graduate in 2014 with her friends, which was her one big dream for her final year at Northampton.

Beth was only 2 weeks into her final year when this tragedy happened. She had just celebrated her 21st birthday and had celebrated by spending 4 days at Bestival on the Isle of Wight with her sister Lydia and Lydia’s fiance Simon.

Beth had returned to uni early to enjoy Freshers week and then her first term had begun.

On 30th September 2013, Beths family had to face the worst possible moment of their lives when they had to accept that Beth had passed away.

The option of organ donation was raised by the hospital staff and the family had no hesitation in agreeing to this as they had, as a family, spoken of organ donation previously.

Beth’s sister, Lydia, worked as an oncology nurse at Birmingham Children’s hospital and Beth had remembered how Lydia had been present when a man's liver had been split and then transplanted into 2 babies – The gift of life.

From this discussion, Beth and the family decided that should anything ever happen, they would all wish to be organ donors and make something good happen out of a tragedy.

On the weekend of 28th / 30th September, the family had their tragedy and whilst they prayed for their miracle, other families were having their prayers answered and their miracle was unfolding.

Whilst Beth’s family struggle to come to terms with their loss and grief, they understand that other families are rejoicing and celebrating Beth’s gift of life and the family genuinely wish them all well – There is strength to be gained from this.

Beth’s family together in time will rebuild and will go forward. It will be a very slow process as a beautiful person has left their side.
