Beth's Seventh Anniversary - 30th September 2020 10.39am
We cannot believe that 7 years have passed since we sadly lost our Bethy.
Due to Covid-19 we were not able to get our friends and family around us but we were delighted that so many of Beth’s friends and our family were able to ensure that yellow balloons filled the sky with Beth's message about the importance of discussing organ donation.
It is with great pride that we can state that the law relating to Organ Donation was changed in 2020.
“20 May 2020
The Organ Donation (Deemed Consent) Bill - aka Max and Keira’s Law, or the opt out system - comes into effect in England.”
Max Johnson received a heart from Keira and campaigned hard to bring about the changes.
“Even if it saves just one life, it will be worth it. I know what it is like to wait for an organ, so I hope the change in law will mean people won't have to wait as long in the future.
Max Johnson
Heart transplant recipient and campaigner
As a family we would encourage people to continue to discuss organ donation in the hope that we can help all those unfortunate people who are on a transplant waiting list.
It is amazing what impact on life an organ donor can have, and this was summed up so beautifully by Beth’s friend Emily –
“Because of you, people are alive and spending precious time with their families.
Because of you, I try to find the good in every situation…even when it is hard.
Because of you, I know what it means to love someone so much that it physically hurts when they are not here anymore.
Because of you, I get to teach my kids at school about organ donation and they know how my superhero friend Beth saved Lives!”
Thank you all for your continued support and for remembering Bethy.
